  • Increased traction reduces risk of slipping on hard surfaces such as roads and boosts rider confidence
  • No sharp edges greatly reduces risk of wounding/injury to other horses or people by kicking out

Spelling and Breeding Environments
  • All four feet can be shod as the risk of wounding/injuring other horses by kicking out is greatly reduced with Costin Horseshoes compared with metal because they do not have sharp edges.
  • It is preferable for racehorses to be shod during short spells because after the shoes are removed, the nail holes weaken the hoof walls and the hoof may break up. When the horse comes back into training and the farrier often discovers the hoof is chipped away. By shoeing with Costin Horseshoes during spelling, this damage is avoided.
  • Allows natural growth of the hoof for overall wellbeing and condition
  • Easy of fitting reduces shoeing time
  • Value for money and competitive pricing contains operating costs

Yearlings
  • Using steel shoes on yearlings is detrimental to hoof development
  • This is the horse’s most important growing period and it is important that their hooves are cared for.
  • Costin Horseshoes allow natural growth

Injured Horses
  • The Costin Horseshoe is not designed for laminitic horses and is not an orthopaedic shoe. But has been shown to assist horses with shin soreness
  • The damage that a horse suffers from vibration and jarring particularly in the early stages of work must shorten its racing or competing life.
  • If you have a good racehorse that can win races how many more races can it win and how much longer can it race by simply using the Costin Horseshoe?
Two Year Old Horses and First Time Starters
  • Shin soreness happens to nearly all two year olds and first time starters and is what stops most horses getting to the early races.
  • In those early races it’s not the fastest horse that wins but the soundest horse. So far the Costin Horseshoe has had amazing results in getting babies to the racing track.
  • Generally shin soreness results in a long time out spelling for a horse before it is brought back into work. In dollars and sense it costs a lot of money, not to mention the disappointment and frustration for owners and trainers.
  • The Costin Horseshoe is not a shoe to fix problems, it’s a shoe designed to make your horse more comfortable which gives you better results whether it is racing, trotting or competing.
